You may have noticed that SID (a Speed Indication Device) has arrived in the village!
This was purchased by the Parish Council jointly with Mears Ashby, who delivered it to us last night. The purpose of the device is two-fold:
- to inform passing traffic of their exact speed to try to reduce speeding
- to record the information which can then be extracted to provide vital detail of average speeds which will enable evidence based data being passed forward for potential future visits to hot spots by the Safety Camera Team.
We are indebted to residents Michael Graves and Jon Willey for kindly volunteering to manage the device whilst it is in Wilby and to extract the data.
The sign is fully portable and will be sited at various locations in the village for a week at a time. It is currently on Main Road towards Earls Barton near the Church Lane junction.
The device will be in Wilby for the next 6 weeks before being returned to Mears Ashby for their next stint. It will then come back to Wilby again on a continuing shared basis.
It is hoped to publish the data from the device on this site in the future – so watch this space!
